Air Permitting

Regulation

A person shall not build, erect, install, alter or replace any equipment or agricultural permit unit, the use of which may cause the issuance of air contaminants or the use of which may eliminate, reduce or control the issuance of air contaminants without first obtaining written authorization for such construction from the Executive  Officer.

When do I need an Air Permit?

Basically, anytime a process or action causes any emission of criteria air pollutants (ozone, carbon monoxide, nitrogen dioxide, sulfur dioxide, suspended particulate matter, sulfate lead, and visibility reducing particulate matter), precursor pollutants (volatile organic compounds, nitrogen oxides, and suflfur oxides), or toxic air contaminants, an air permit will be required. Violations of air permit requirements can involve costly fines and public notice.
